Tired....

I have been lucky enough to have no real morning sickness this pregnancy or my last one but this time I am really feeling the tiredness. I don't know if it's because I am busier at work or because I have a 4 year old to look after. Maybe both!

Today was a relatively easy day work wise with only 2 classes at the high school. I did some banking when I was done and then picked L up from daycare to go to swimming class. He seemed to be asleep when I walked in the door but then was suddenly crying for some reason. He has been going to daycare since he was one but lately we are having some major issues about going. He hasn't been a daytime sleeper since he was quite little so the enforced nap thing doesn't help but as he has been going for so long he was pretty much used to it. I don't know if it has something to do with the baby but he cries most mornings about going. As he only goes when I have work on there are some days when I can pick him up before nap time and if I tell him that is going to happen he is fine. If he knows it will be later he puts on a performance.

Anyway, had swimming class which was crazy as usual. Ten 4 to 5 year olds jumping around in the water. L is getting better but is half the time too busy mucking around with other boys to do what he is supposed to do. After swimming we hit the supermarket to get stuff for the week. I usually do a big shop on Monday but still end up getting stuff at various times throughout the week. We spend way too much on groceries. Usually over 60,000 for just the three of us but I love my fresh fruit and vege and that's what seems to kill us.

Dinner was leftover pumpkin and sweet potato soup. Hub won't be home until after 9 but of course soup won't do as a dinner for him so I have made him an assortment of stuff including slightly burnt spare ribs. Oops! I have a good excuse though as I was on the exercise bike when they were cooking and couldn't check.

Shower and bed are calling. I bought a region free DVD player for our bedroom which was a great buy.

  1. I need to get a region free DVD player- let me know how yours goes. Nay has also recommended a portable dvd player that is region free so I might even do that instead and kill two birds with one stone.

I was so tired during the beginning of my pregnancy and I also got married when I was about 8 weeks along and not many people knew I was pregnant so hiding the whole "no drinking, I am so exhausted" thing was hard! I hope it passes soon for you!

It is great that L does swimming- there is a tipness gym near our house which has a pool and I am thinking of looking into baby and mummy swimming classes next summer- of course he is not going to go pro at six months but will be nice to get him accustomed to the water!

  2. Hi there, I blog jumped from reading Lulu`s blog, hope you don`t mind.

Love that your little one goes to swimming class, we take our little one to the beach, but no swimming/entering water as of yet. Just a paddle in the centimetre high water at the edge. I think she`s more interested in eating sand at the mo :)

  3. Lulu, I actually have two region free DVD players that I bought through the Flying Pig. The first one I bought about 5 years ago and has been great. The second one is quite basic in comparison but is working okay so far. I would love to hear about the portable one. I have been wanting to get one for a while but as most of the DVDs we have are from Australia I thought it would be better not to buy it here.

It must have been hard having your wedding when you were just pregnant and tired. Not being able to drink on your wedding day must have been harsh too ;-)

L enjoys going to swimming class but I sometimes wish it was a bit more hard core. I was apparently swimming by the time I was two but it's definitely a slower and more relaxed approach here.

  5. We have a region free DVD player that we bought from Yamada denki but it's not the best. There are a few different DVD's that I have bought back with me from Australian that don't work in it. Originally I thought it was the older movies (don't laugh but yes I own movies like Lassie...) but when Lulu was down visiting Mammia Mia wouldn't play on it either.

Thank goodness for the portable DVD player we bought because it seriously plays everything. I will ask Naoki for the link and comment again for you. I totally recommend it.

I think it's great that you have L in swimming lessons. Even if it's not as strict as it could be, he is gaining experience and confidence in the water which is the main thing!!

I was glad that I had morning sickness in the first trimester but in a way I am envious that you don't have it at all!! I am still sick about once a week!! I have gained a lot of my energy back now though. Hopefully you will too - I don't know how you manage to work, raise L and look after everything else!! I think you are amazing - I really didn't do a lot during my first trimester... but then again, even now I am pretty lazy :P LOL

Is that 60000 yen a month for groceries? Does that include shampoo and other household items or just food?!? I think we spend under $300 but that will definitely change once we have another mouth to feed :)

  6. Hi! I came over from Lulu's page!!
    Congrats on your pregnancy!!

Do you have a recipe for that sweet potato and pumpkin soup? I LOVE using in season veggies and I love autumn ones the most so any new "Weapon" in my cooking arsenal would be appreciated!!

Jealous of your region free DVD player - I might do what Lulu did and get the portable one... god knows in a year or two I'll probably need it for the long plane rides home with my daugher.

  7. Hi Marianne! I decided it was about time I started a blog as I was feeling like a bit of a stalker just lurking at all of yours ;-)

Thanks for the congrats! It still hasn't really sunk in yet but we are excited. Can't wait to find out what we are having. If we have another boy I think I will definitely have to bring them down to meet your lovely girls. I think L and A would make a cute couple so if things don't work out with her new guy let me know lol ;-)

  8. Hi Nay! That would be great if you could contact me again with the link for the portable player. I think it will definitely come in handy next time we go back home. We fly Jetstar so get the TV thing but the kid's TV available is very ordinary.

I actually sometimes wished I had morning sickness so I would feel like everything was going okay with the pregnancy. Being tired isn't good though as I just want to crash at night and don't get stuff I should done! I am definitely not amazing! When I'm busy with work and L poor hub and the house get neglected lol. Not too mention my poor cat who has been neglected ever since L was born :-0

  9. Nay, I forgot to comment on our crazy food bill! 60,000 is for just food and not even eating out. I use an online accounting thing and looking at this month's we are over 70,000. I really have to start finding some ways to skimp. I am vegetarian and L doesn't eat much meat so I said to hub he should cut down on his meat but he wasn't very impressed with the idea.

  11. I've been wondering how much other people spend on food here - I'm glad to see a post about it! We seem to spend around 5man per month for food for two of us, plus maybe another couple on eating out. It feels kind of high to me, but my husband said he was spending about that on just himself before I moved up to Tokyo because he was always eating out at lunch and buying bento/ready made stuff from supermarkets in the evening. So I guess when you think about it that way...

  12. I would love to visit one day Marianne! Even though we are so close I have seen very little of Kyushu. The only place I regularly is Costco :-)

  13. Hi Umebossy! Living in Tokyo, 50,000 doesn't seem like too much. I think if you want to eat good stuff and a range of things the money just goes. My son is a fruit bat which doesn't help too much either.
